fire evacuation

I think I've mentioned that Bonnie and I live in the foothills of Altadena, on the edge of the Angeles National Forest. It's a beautiful place to live. However, because of what's being called the "Station Fire," I was forced to evacuate our home from Saturday afternoon through Monday at about 1 p.m. I had to board our five cats at the vet and spent the time away at my brother-in-law's.

Anyway, it's great to be back, though the air outside is smokey and barely fit to breathe. Though our area is safe, the fire is still burning out of control in most places on its perimeter in the Angelus Forest. It may not be contained until the middle of September.

Bonnie is on the road, right now in the Bitterroot Range of Montana. So she's breathing much better air.

Re: fire evacuation

Thanks for your concern, LG. We were evacuated well before the fire, had it gotten to us would have been life-threatening. The real danger was that I might com back to find my home destroyed. Happily, that didn't happen. Unhappily, a lot birds and other wildlife was displaced and many of the hillsides denuded. It now appears that this, the largest Angeles Forest fire in recorded history, was the result of arson.

I can't imagine what goes on in the mind of a person who could do such a thing. I hope they catch him (or her) before he can do something like that again.
