I'm surprised.

Nobody has dropped by to talk about their favorite awesome prophesy that proves Jesus is their savior, the bible is the actual "word of god", and that I'm going to hell.

Stormdog: It's here! It's here! One of those ads that keeps showing up at the top of the forum is for a free, downloadable book titled "God's Final Witness 2008" which predicts the demise of the U.S. within the year (be thankful you live in Canada). According to the ad, the book also explains the meaning of Revelation's "seven thunders," which, the ad explains, God didn't allow John of Patmos to write down. So, this book interprets a prophecy in Revelation that isnt in Revelation. Neat trick!

Now where the heck am I going to go for my vacations?

Is it just the Continental US, or is Hawaii screwed too? I suppose once the US is gone, it'll be a much shorter drive to Mexico.

I don't know; maybe there will be nothing but wate there, and going to Mexico will require an ocean cruise.

Actually, when I persued the matter further and went to the "2008: God's Final Witness" website, it said that both the U.S. and the U.K. would be destroyed. Perhaps, with typically casual Yankee hubris, the author forgot to include Canada (as well as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa) in the blurb.

No, I'm pretty sure Jesus would like Canada over the US, but yes, I'm assuming the author is unaware of most of these other countries.

I've written...

to a number of websites that advertise they possess knowledge in regards to the end of the world. Oddly, they're too busy to come here and explain their position. I did, however, receive dire warnings that I'll "be sorry" I didn't feint a severe brain injury and just take their word for it. I don't think that's very honest of them. Sorta like how psychics can do what they claim they can do, as long as nobody's paying close attention.

Re: I'm surprised.

That website I told you about, featuring a book called "God's Final Witness" says we're already on our way down the tubes. It's begun already, and the U.S. and U.K. are slated for destruction in 2009. I wonder ofthe site will still be up in 2010.

On the New Age side of things, we have the whole Mayan Calender 2012 end ofthe world - though New Agers tend to be vague enough about such things that when, some three years down the line, the world doesn't end, they'll have a whole new set of rationalizations on tap and ready fo public distribution. One of these, no doubt, will be that the prophecy wa o a great Transformation of Cosmic Consciousness that began, unbeknownst to the less enlightened among us, in 2012.

One of the greatest back-pedelers in regard to end-times that weren't is Hal Lindsey, author of the best-selling "The Late Great PLanet Earth." He predicted (though in very hedged terms) the beginning of the Tribulation (the last seven years of Earth's history) in 1988, i.e. in the generation (40 years) of the founding of the modern state of Israel.

When it didn't happen then, he said that Israel's founding wasn't complete until the Israelis took the entirety of Jerusalem in the Six Day War in 1967. He also said that maybe the biblical view of a generation was 100 years, rather than 40. This gave him three fall-back positions: 40 years after the Six Day War - 2007; 100 years after the founding of Israel - 2048; and 100 years after the Six Day War - 2067. He lost his first fall-back position on January 1, 2008; but he'll prabaly be dead by the time either 2048 or 2067 rolls around. Thus, he won't have to worry about either date cutting in to his sales and can still be the quintessential Profit of Doom.
