News from the Front
I looked into a couple of boards from the opposition, in these two cases, fundamentalist Christians, and have spent an interesting, though, in the end, rather pointless few weeks debating with them.
To make a long - and rather tedious - story short, after a long debate on the evolution v. creationism issue with "Order of Melchizedek" (Mel for short) and one of his friends, Free- 04, It finally came out that Mel espouses "presuppositional apologetics," meaning that one presupposes that the Bible is true and that facts of history and science have no bearing on whether what is in the Bible is true or not; i.e. it's true simply becase its in the Bible.
This came out of a discussion of the age of the earth, after I finally got Mel to admit that he was a young earth creationist. I pointed out that rates of radioagctive decay, the speed of light and the distance from the earth of certain stars, etc. demonstrated the earth and the universe were billions of years old.
Mel refered me to the late Greg Bahnsen, saying his taechings showed all my posts to be crap (not in those words, of course, but the same intent). It turns out that Bhnsen advocated not oly presuppositional aplogetics, but dominionism and theonomy s well. Dominionism = Christian Reconstructionism = a theocratic state. Theonomy, meaning "God's law," means that society should be governed by Old Testament law.

Re: News from the Front
If you read through some of the religious threads here, you'll see some of the fights Mel has had with other people about his religious claptrap.
We all know him as a fundamentalist who refuses to discuss anything except his religion and if the conversation starts moving away from what he started, he simply starts a new thread with the same story.
He says quite openly that he is only on these boards to collect recruits for his belief system and that we are all doomed to hell for not believing them.
Poor deluded man, I feel very sorry for him.

Wow.
Indeed it does look like you're wasting your time trying to have an honest debate with these haters of democracy. Do they not clue in that being in a democracy is what protects their right to follow the religious beliefs of their own choosing, no matter how stupid they are?
However, that you managed to get a single straight answer out of any of them is something of a minor victory.

Re: News from the Front
I suppose, but I've given up openly seeking discussion there. No point to it. I don't specifically want to tell Christians off. I'm not that petty. But I do want to discuss religion generally.
That's impossible in an environment of "my way or no way". So I came over here where at least I can discuss my opinions about religion in a friendly and intellectual way. (With some humor thrown in).
